    Default [battery] Replacement tricks

    hi

i think i have to replace my battery for my iPhone.
it would be simple and easy just to upgrade to a 3G, but i want to have my 2G for some reasons. one of them is, i stood in line on july 3rd for it, hardware unlocked it (geohot-style), so it has some kind of emotional value for me.

so, i'm willing to open it up again, and resolder the battery. i'm used to soldering, not really professional, but i already did some things.

however, before trying to do so, are there any tricks for the battery solder?

which cable should i desolder first and which one goes on it again for first?
i mean, is there a specific order in which the cables should be de-/attached?

should i totally drain the battery out first before desoldering? (and therefore maybe prevent a short circuit)

you see, i want to do it carefully since, as said it has a emotional value to me

How I did it - to remove old batery, draw a diagramme and colour code before you start - cut the wires to the PCB as close as you can, one at a time. This is safer than trying to desolder from the tabs on the PCB as it would be easy to slip the tip of the iron and short circuit and you avoid heat to the PCB. Now, tidy up the remaining wire ends, put a touch of flux on each and solder on your new battery wires in any order you prefer - just make sure you keep the loose wires out of the way because if you short anything you'll be in deep p**
