I have this same problem, on a US iphone but u'm in UK, whole screen unresponsive. I did a restore about a month ago and got it back working but lost screen again about 2 weeks later. Hoping its a software issue. If it's hardware issue and i can't find a fix, this'll be the last Apple product i buy !!!

Not so proud owner of a nice looking Brick !

    Hey Guys,
    Experiencing same problem here.
Anyone have a solution? My iPhone is completely touchscreen dead and I am halfway around the world from where it is purchased.

If there is not DIY fix, does anyone know what I must do if supposing I'm going to send this to a friend in the States to bring it into an Apple store?

    Thanks in advance.

Unhappy It's not a HW issue...

I'm 99% sure it's not a hw issue, because I received my iphone (2g) 2 days ago, as a present, brand new.
As I didn't know anything of the problems I would have, when I connected my iphone to my PC, my itunes 7.7 told me there was a new version, and I updated.
After that, I used Ziphone to unlock and jailbrake it.
After this, I changed the SIM (I forgot to insert it before), and this was the beginning of my hell, with the message "applemultitouch spi stopped" given by ziphone.

Just a few hours before a new version of winpwn (2.0.0.3) has been launched. It supports FW 2.0. I'm gonna try this.

Please, if you've got news, post it... I've only had my iphone functional for... less than one day!!! Aaaaaaargh

I just received an iPhone with the same problem. A friend showed up and had 'accidentally' updated her unlocked Edge iPhone via iTunes ... of course completely locking her out.

I had unlocked my iPhone seamlessly with ZiPhone in 1.1.3, so I set her phone back down to 1.1.4; ran ZiPhone 3.0:

AppleMultitouchSPI: couldn't bootload the device after 15 tries... terminating...
    AppleMultitouchSPI: stopped

I tried backing off to 1.1.3, 1.1.2, 1.1.1, and 1.0.2. I then updated to 2.1 via iTunes no fix. Finally I unlocked via QuickPwn 2.1 which appears to update BL and BB.

If I pop in a sim card I get signal from my carrier; if I double-click the home button, I get the iPod player; if I hold the power-off button I get the 'slide to power off' screen; and if i switch the mute button I get the ringer/no-ringer icons. But nothing gives me response from the screen.

I looked through the AppleMultitouchSPI directory under Library/Extensions/ and there are files there, though I have no method for verifying if they are all there or complete.

I'm wondering if either (a) anyone has found a fix yet or (b) anyone has discovered a hardware solution (ie. cleaning contacts, replacing the screen, etc.)

Sending the phone back to apple is not an option.

    Thanks.

    AppleMultitouchSPI stopped.
I too have the same problem touch isnt working worse thing is that m in Africa no repair shops.
I have even tried the firmware 2.1, unlocked it with quickpwn 3.0 still no touch. And let me tell you installing bootneuter was the worst decision coz if try to restore it but its not deleted and your phone will always be in unlocked state & worse since you'll have no touch no way of opening apps to sisable it.
Has any of you tried winpwn? Enable expert mode, Winpwn has an option "do you want to wipe data?restore will take longer" Coz if someone in this thread had written that they erased there bb, multitouched responded but got some error later (sorry about that).
I think this is a minor problem to an expert coz its just like an system process that has not been launched. just like end task exploerer and running it again.
I think its a problem with the bootloader the part that interfaces the hardware to the firmware. Whatever it is hope will get a solution soon bricking a phone thats just $$$$$$ no joke!
