dude! you can try to eraser your BB using ziphone. I did with mine and the screen work fine (slider come back to life) but now stuck with "need repair" message. Anyway, I'll try to hit Ibrick and check to make sure the Files "appleMultitouchSPI...something" is in place and may need to replace it with something else that work. Anyone mine to share their "AppleMultitouchSPI's files"...i'll test it and let's u know.

(mind* instead of mine in my last post) anyway, i checked mine iphone's files and i think we doomed...There are nothing in the files' tree. Accept "iTune helper". I tried to restore to every filmware that available (1.1.1, 1.1.2,1.1.3 and 1.1.4) each filmware to do DFU and restore (total of 2 times). It seem hopeless...when checking bb using eZiphone i ended up with some endless boot saying : unable to varify filmware and something about AppleMVRx86...Well, i think we need some expert to explain about this. . I'll tried to H/w unlock to get my bootloader back to original and keep u guyz update. Hope will find solution soon.

I've just received a "broken" Iphone (my friend's phone) with the same problem as described on the first post.

That's what happend:
the phone was 113 otb unlocked using ziphone probably and it worked for several months. my friend used the installer to update something that had to do with the keyboard or something and the next thing that happend was that the screen was not responding to anykind of touch anymore....

no matter what I've tried to do, nothing helped...

that's what I tried :
FM 111,112,113,114, custom by pwange
unlocking : iliberty,iplus,ziphone
(using both restore mode and dfu mode).

nothing, but nothing seems to help this problem.

what indication do i see:
1. the screen is simply not working (although the phone does receive calls but you can't answer them, the speaker works since you hear the ringing, the home button works -> double click launches the ipod miniwindows, power button works as well, you can explore the phone using iphonebrowser, you can sync it using itunes -> so everything works beside the screen touch).
2. when using verbose mode i see the same message as the other ppl reported :
AppleMultitouchSPI: couldn't bootload the device after 15 tries... terminating...
AppleMultitouchSPI: stopped


Questions:
1. well, it will be a bit silly to ask if anyone knows of a sw solution to the problem right?
2. can anyone classify this problem as HW or SW problem?
3. do you know if a new screen or any other hw part should solve this problem?

I dont know what to do, should i order new LCD screen with touch panel, or its SW prob, my Iphone is whole open and waiting to me to decide what to do, to order it the part or....

I've been having exactly the same problem and, in some ways, I am glad to see that I am not the only one. On the other hand, I am stunned to see that there still doesn't seem to be an explanation to it.

I also experienced a "miracle" after my first restore. It worked for two hours and then went to sleep indefinitely. It led me to believe that the problem was SW, I ended up restoring to all previous firmwares... with no results.
This makes me believe that the problem is actually HW but can't explain what could be wrong. It's been reported that the touch screen usually fails either on the top or the bottom part but rarely on both, so suddenly. My phone was well cared for, never fell and never wet...
Anyway, I live in Switzerland, sending it to Apple is out of the question, if someone makes a breakthrough, please, let us know!!!
