Default Anyone replaced their broken iphone glass

I have a iphone 3g with broken glass. I looked at youtube and the replacement seems easy.. but the guy on youtube ( PDAPARTS) says that only replacement bought from them will work as replacement but they are out of stock. Ebay has plenty of them. Will they work with the iphone? Or did anyone had any experience with replacing the glass/digitizer?

you can use one from ebay but make sure you buy it with the digitiser attached (you wont need the LCD screen replacement as this is seperate on the 3G)
Dont follow PDA parts instructions or you will damage your chrome edge. Use a strong 'sucker' to pull the screen from the body. i.e. use the sucker part of a car Sat Nav or similar in this order:-
1 remove the 2 screws beside the apple dock connector
2 attach the sucker as near the bottom as possible
3 pull sucker making sure you are opening it from the bottom as there are connectors at the top of the device and you have to open it like a book keeping the top edge in place.
No you can follow PDA parts instructions :-)
    Good luck

This is not true ! The glass is sealed to the frame by glue and if you pull out the glass its impossible to re-seal the glass to the frame.

I have done it so I know....

Well I wouldnt bother because you will end up destroying more than is already broke !

The glass/digitizer is hermetically sealed to the frame by a rubber glue type substance.

Unless you have access to the correct sealing process used by Apple...you wont be able to re-seat the screen properly.

I know - you are now disappointed to hear that !

I have been in contact with the factory outlet in China that sells all iPhone 3G parts and they dont sell the complete screen assembly.

FYI Heres the parts list with prices:

    iphone 3G LCD 59
    iphone 3G lens 11.8
iPhone 3G OEM digitizer with glass 44.25
    iphone 3G back cover 58.82
    iphone 3G bezel 11.06
iphone 3G signal cable with connetor 5.15/4.41(>50pcs)
    iphone 3G antenna 2.95
iphone 3G Earphone flex cable 5.88/5.15(>50pcs)
    iphone 3G sim card tray(black/white) 5.88/5.15(>50)
iphone 3G charging port with flex cable 5.88
    iphone 3G camera 8.09
All the offer is based on US dollar.

Well I guess you could but you know it just wont be right....

I think both you and I have to resign ourselves to our losses and get another iPhone.

Claw back what you can on Ebay for a broken unit.

I tried many contacts in China and cannot find the complete screen assembly. Also got a reply from pdaparts.com and nothing on the horizon either.

I was able to install the new glass and looks like new.. works fine and everything.. however, there is a problem with hold button. When I press the hold button the screen goes dim and I cant make it brighter again.. I never touched motherboard part.. what could be the problem..
