[Advice] crc error on SDIO block
So I'm posting this as a new topic, as I've searched google endlessly, and have only found one other topic about this which hasn't had any activity for a few months...I am on a mac so please gear solutions in that direction if at all possible. Thanks!
So here is my situation: I received an iPhone from a friend who attempted to unlock it. Symptoms were that the phone would randomly freeze up and be unresponsive, and that wi-fi would not work. It would either say "no wi-fi" or it would let me go to the wi-fi page and then start to freeze up. I have no real knowledge of the exact steps that were taken to bring the phone to this state. This is a week 40 iPhone with a 3.9 bootloader.
The first thing I tried was just entering recovery and restoring to 1.1.4 and would reattempt the jailbreak etc. I had no luck, the phone froze on the activation screen, and wouldn't let me slide.
Second try: I entered DFU mode and attempted to restore to 1.0.2. This ended in the normal error that I was expecting. I used iBrickr (from a friends computer) to try to kick it out of recovery mode, and it did. But it froze on the activation screen. I know that it was successfully downgraded though since when i plugged the "frozen" phone into the computer, inDependence shows me: Product Version 1.0.2 and Baseband Version 03.14.08_G.
Third: I realized that this was probably a problem with the baseband. So, I restarted the phone in recovery mode and I used ZiPhone 2.5c to "iErase 3.9 BL Baseband." On the phone, when the text is scrolling, I noticed TONS of errors along the lines of "crc error on SDIO block" followed by an address to a specific memory (sorry for this unclear wording but I don't know much about flash memory). It went on for a while and then restarted the phone. The phone didn't freeze on the activation screen, however as I erased the baseband, I didn't have an IMEI, wifi etc.
Fourth: I wondered what would happend if I just restored the phone to 1.1.4 (changing the baseband to 04.04.05) and running ZiPhone -a -j -u. This gave me tons of "crc error on SDIO block" and just did not stop.
Now I'm not really sure what to do. I have narrowed it down to a) faulty baseband or b) problem with the flash memory.
If someone knows anything about this CRC error, I would greatly appreciate your help!
Or, if you think its the baseband, how would I go about virginizing the phone? I attempted to downgrade to 1.0.2, and then erase BB. So then I had a 1.0.2 that wouldn't freeze. I then used ZiPhone to activate and jailbreak. Then I tried to install BSD subsystem/vtool but as I don't have wifi, I don't know how to. I was thinking of iNdependence, but it says that my phone ISNT jailbroken, even though ZiPhone claims that it is. I then go to activate the phone in InDependence, I point it to where i extracted the firmware file, but I get a "Error writing modified Services.plist to phone" error.
Now, I'm just not really sure what to do and am considering giving up...Sorry for such a long post. Thanks for reading, and thanks in advance for any help you might offer!!

EDIT: I should also say that I've tried iJailbreak to jailbreak the phone, but iNdependence still doesnt accept it. And, I tried iFuntastic to use to transfer the viriginizing files, but it can't connect to the iPhone even though it says it was "unshackled" successfully.
And ah crap..I just read the rules for titles..is there a way to change the title to something like
[1.1.4 (orig. unknown)][Prob] crc error on SDIO block

Starting from a "No WIFI" situation, I've tried several steps, and sometimes I came across this error.
But not always.
I suspect that this problem might be related with damaged memory, and when it is accessed the phone acts weird.
See my post at this thread http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/show...t=31771&page=5

Yeah, I noticed that a few times it didn't give any errors, and I got excited. But then, the next time I tried something the errors came back.
Also, is there some program that can check the iPhone memory. I know for computers there are various apps that can check the memory for faults.

I have exactly same problem and i will share my experiance in it with u.
* you will see this error only, if u flashed BB
* if you erased it, phone will work but give u need repair message, and if u excute any script in BL, u will never see it.
* if u want access you phone:
- restore to 114.
- erase BB with ziphone -e
- jailbreak and activate using 2.4 modiied to activate and jailbeak
- use ibreaker to install PXL support
- install BSD 1.5 and term 100 from PXL man.
- acess the phone ising iphonelist sw, to get aster.passwd and edit from 551 to 0
- now u can use term100 without login problem.
but to be onest, i tried all possible solution, BL testpoint downgrade, BB upgrade.
but try may be u can find solution for it.

Thanks so much MAK for your answer. I will try it later tonight. In your opinion do you think that there will be any possible software way to fix this problem? Or, do you think it has something to do with hardware?
EDIT:
@MAK
I restored 1.1.4, then erased BB and jailbreaked and activated. When I hook it up to iBrickr, it says that I have to jailbreak. I try that and I just end up with the connect to itunes screen with a green backgruond. Im using ver. 0.91, is there an updated version or something? I tried google but no luck. THanks!
Edit2:
Nevermind, I found the iBrickr 1.1.3 Jailbreak Edition and I'm going to try with that now.
