About iPhone Earbuds
I have a simple question:
Are all earbuds compatible with the iPhone? I read some time ago that not all of them worked because of some electrical technicality with the iPhone that makes only some models of earbuds work.
Is this true? Or will any set of headphones/earbuds etc, work with the iPhone? Nevermind that they dont have a microphone or a pause/play button.
Will they play my music just as if they were plugged in to a conventional iPod?

They will work. The only issue is that they made the jack the proper size, but they placed it deeper in the phone, so normal jacks can't reach it without an adapter.
So natively they will not work. But with the proper adapter, they will.

Nope, it's 3.5mm, just that the jack is not flushed with the phone's exterior case. Meaning that any ordinary earphone/headphone will work flawlessly, while the only problem is the rubber/plastic material around the connectors which may not be able to fit through the corner.
The adapters are not 2.5-3.5mm converters, just plain extensions. I've seen people go to the extent of shaving off the rubber from their expensive audiophile equipment...

I did that with my Bang & Olufsen Headphones, all it required was taking about 2mm of the soft rubber around the base off with a craft knife and the inner bit fits perfectly.
