I would like to know if someone has the pinout/schematic of the new 3GS earplugs that allow to pause and volume up/down
Also I would like to know if I can use these new earphones in older iphones (2G or 3G)
Thanks

I believe these new headphones include a chip that handles multiplexing the control signals from the volume up/down and play/pause buttons. This chip is copyrighted by apple and you need to negotiate a licensing agreement with apple if you want to use the chip.
I guess you could reverse engineer the chip's logic and develop a clean independent implementation of this multiplexing. If reverse engineering is legal in your country.
The headphones partly work in 2G iPhones, the volume buttons do not work and triple clicking does not work. The other functions work as expected.
