[1.1.4][Problem]Screen stops responding
So it started about a couple of months back. I was running 1.1.2 back then and life was good. Then one fine morning I was on a flight, and I had put the phone in flight mode before takeoff. So I take out the phone, and discover that flight mode has switched itself off, and my screen won't respond. No matter what I did, the screen just wouldn't respond. So I tried hard rebooting the phone...didn't help.
So when I got off the plane, everything is working fine except for the screen. The phone got a signal, it started receiving calls (which I couldn't answer of course) and SMS's, the silent switch was working fine, so were the volume controls and the home and power switch. Sometimes when I would try to slide my finger across the screen, the rotating circle would come in the middle of the screen, and then the phone seemed to do a soft reboot. But still no screen activity.
In the evening, when I got some time, I sycned the phone to itunes and restored to 1.1.4, thinking maybe that would help. It didn't. So in frustration, I banged the phone on the tabletop, and voila! The screen started working perfectly. So anyways, I used iliberty to unlock and I was on my merry way.
Now my problem is that every once in a while, the screen stops responding. Earlier it used to happen when the phone would be subjected to some physical shock, like once it fell out of my shirt pocket when I was bending to pick something up. But now it has started happening even when the phone is sitting on the table or on the bed, and more frequently.
Now usually, a couple of bangs on a table top will restore normal activity. But even the intensity of the banging required has been increasing with time. Now of course, I don't like all this banging, because it might be damaging something else inside the phone, and of course, because I love my iphone. Please note that before the flight incident, I hadn't even dropped the phone once or subjected it to any shocks of any kind. But now the situation has deteriorated to the point where the screen stops responding after the flight I'm on makes a landing.
This seems like a HW issue (maybe a loose connection somewhere or something)....but the point is that the spinning wheel makes me think that the screen did detect some input. Plus sometimes when the screen is unresponsive, it shows some activity before refusing to respond again.
So this morning the same thing happened, and since then (more than 12 hours later), no amount of banging and slapping the phone has helped. So I'm basically stuck with a non-working phone.
Going back to apple is not an option for me, since I'm in India. So any other suggestions/solutions welcome!
Thanks in advance,
Vineet

Since going back to apple is not an option for you, I'll try a DFU restore to 1.1.4 again and if it doesn't works, I'll search on the Hardware's forum for an answer. Good luck

this also seems like a hardware issue to me as well. You may have to take apart the phone and worst case purchase a new screen + digitizer. =(
