Poor battery life after jailbreak with greenpois0n RC6 iPhone 4 legit activation

As you can see from this, the ikee worm is trying to infect other iPhones via your 3G connection.

Just to clarify for the normal app buying public out here who are thinking about jailbreaking but are a bit worried about ruining their phones, if we stay away from the pirated stuff are we unlikely to get a virus, or are there legitimate packages out there that can leave us open to infection?

Im a little confused here as im not sure when this was disscussing pirated apps.
Ne ways as i stated before i as well have the same issue as spadediamond.
YET i DO NOT have installous or ANY pirated apps installed. Yet i share the same battery drainage with whatsapp and mostly safari.
I have also have checked SYSINFOPLUS for any suspicious processes and found none. And to be safe used mobile terminal to remove any unwanted files but all came back no files found...... And lastly i went through a very long console log of my iphoneand see no ikey or ikee bbots...
I would be interested to see that after a full restore (setup as new phone) and jailbreak with greenpois0n RC6.1 with just PAID whatsapp installed if you still experience battery loss browsing in safari and using whatsapp..

How many times do you here people who install pirated apps say they only do it to try them out then remove them? Ye right we believe you.

This probably won't be much help to others, but I can confirm I went from 4.1 to 4.2.1 by shift-restoring, used greenpois0n to jailbreak (but not activate), legitimately activated using iTunes, restored from my 4.1 backup (yes, I know it's not recommended!), and I am not experiencing battery drain outside of what I consider to be normal. Again, I can appreciate this isn't much help, but I wanted to confirm that the steps taken should NOT result in battery drain, though the restoring from backup on 4.1 is very key -- if there was a problem in my 4.1 it could easily manifest on 4.2.1 if restored from backup.

i have just restored my phone back to the official firmware (as a "new" phone, not from a backup) without greenpoison.. n regained the battery life.. il re jailbreak (w/o hacktivation ) and use greenpoison and change my default ssh password and will post about my experience with the battery life ..

When my iPhone 4 was running jailbroken 4.1, the battery life was very good. The phone typically lost about 20% of battery life a day.

With JB'd 4.2.1, it loses about 56% a day. Usage profile hasn't changed much. If anything, I've been more careful with usage. Phone is currently jailbroken with both greenpois0n rc6-1 and redsn0w 0.9.6 rc8. I've tried just using gp alone AND a custom IPSW generated by PwnageTool 4.2. Both methods exhibited similar battery drain but the PT method was worst of the lot.

Here's a copy of my console log for the past 24 hours. Will someone have a look, please, and tell me where the drain may be coming from?

I can't see anything obvious. Have you done the obvious (set up phone as new, used SAM to get legitimate activation via iTunes?)

My battery drain seems to have been fixed. I did full restore and set up new phone. not hacktivated, itunes activated. jailbroke with Greenpois0n 6.1 and re did all my 20 sum cydia tweaks and reloaded all my games and apps and themes... and safari seems to be on par now at 10% battery drain per hour giving me back the said 10 hour web browsing on wifi life...

Right now my phone usage stats since last charge say 5 hours usage and 22 hours standby and i still have 51% battery left. Before that I would have been lucky to even get half of that battery life...

When i had the issue i had jailbroke with GP RC5_b2 first then GP RC5_b4 overtop and then GP RC6_Final all overtop agian. My best guess is that jailbreaking overtop a previous version will work but may cause problems as well... Either that or one of the previous beta RC5 versions has a issue and doing RC6 overtop doesnt correct the issue...

So if you have JB RC6 overtop of prev versions and are having battery issues i suggest you start fresh and restore and use RC6.1 and no overlays... :)

Glad you got it working in the end and thanks for not simply blaming the jailbreak as "bad" and giving up.

The guys behind greenpois0n have actually said it was okay to reapply a newer release candidate of greenpois0n over the top of an existing greenpois0n jailbreak.
I'm not sure how well tested this scenario is.

I can say for sure that it's okay to mix the latest greenpois0n and redsn0w 0.9.6rc8 (but not redsn0w 0.9.7). This can be useful for hacktivation.
The reason this works is that redsn0w doesn't mess with the boot chain (and so doesn't interfere with the untether exploit installed by greenpois0n)

My advice is always, to have a backup, try the "quick" approach and if that gives problems, restore & set up as new with the latest jailbreak.
