Yes, I've set up my phone as a new one several times. The results were the same each time.

My phone is factory-unlocked and was legitimately activated by my network. My phone was always iTunes-activated prior to jailbreaking. I've also tried SAM on the same phone after using gp rc4 or rc5. The battery drain problem was the same.

No worries. I can live with the drain.

hey guys..
so i finally re jb my iphone 4 4.2.1.. factory unlocked.. legit activation with greenpoison rc 6.1.. the phone had previously been restored to factory setting and set up as a new phone (and i got my original excellent battery life back)..

after just jb and installing cydia using the loader.. and nothing more installed .. (just the packages & sources that were installed by default with cydia installing and no pirated apps)..AND immediately changing my default ssh password.. the battery life is still the same (i.e. the original excellent batt life).. so im very happy.. i guess the jb is perfect.. atleast GP rc 6.1..

i guess the problem was (or what infected my iphone with the worm and caused the batt) was one of the pirated apps that i got off installous/apptrackr or just simply not changing the default ssh password.. i also cant find any of the signs of the ikee worm being present (as stated in the earlier post by olethros)

You most likely hit the nail on the head. This is one of the many key reasons we take such an adamant stance against piracy. Putting aside the fact that these apps are cheap as dirt (and if you can't afford them, perhaps selling your $300 phone with your $80/mo cell plan isn't a bad idea), putting aside that it's an illegal violation of copyright law in almost all countries that respect intellectual property, and putting aside the fact that the developers who create these applications deserve an incentive for their work -- these packages cause all SORTS of issues and open you up to malware that you would previously not encounter or would previously be protected from. You don't know where that .IPA came from, no guarantee it doesn't take your information and run with it, etc. At least with Android you have to confirm the level of access granted to the device -- a hacked .IPA can be hacked in hundreds of different ways and you would never know it.

Considering how important phones are to people these days, it always baffles me why people would be willing to cause so many problems just to avoid paying a couple of bucks. I'd rather have a working phone than a free app, any day.

Just as the ikee worm was discovered in my iphone console .. can one detect illicit activity by a pirated app in the console log or otherwise?
