I have no idea if I'm using any other http servers or not. How would I tell? Would they all start out with http in activity monitor? Like, I see WindowServer in the activity monitor, but that isn't an http server, correct?

I am not using web sharing.

It has been spinning the wheel for more than an hour saying that it is accepting connections, so obviously it ain't...
How can I identify and stop anything else that is in the way of this? Also, about two seconds after I kill whatever httpd(blah blah) process in activity monitor, another one shows up with a different number string in the "blah blah" section.

My Mac keeps having that httpd file show up in activity monitor, no matter how many times I close it. Apparently I can't find all of the servers or whatever, so, I checked on my daughter's mac, and it does not have that problem popping up at all, so I added my 4.2.6 restore file to a removable drive, downloaded Tiny Umbrella onto her computer, and then moved a copy of the umbrellalog0 file to her appropriate directory. It did not work. From what I can tell, the biggest problem appears to be that there are no saved SHSH's in Tiny Umbrella on her computer. I had hoped that moving my log file to her computer would fix that. So, how in the world to I get my saved SHSH files onto her computer?

Well, the answer was to unhide all the hidden files in Lion, and then copy my shsh folder to a usb drive. The location of the folder is found in the advanced tab of Tiny Umbrella. So, I did this, and then pointed Tiny Umbrella to the usb drive that I plugged into my daughter's computer, and tried again. And still, once it gets to the point where it is 'restoring iphone firmware', I get the error message that an unknown error has occurred (1). So now I've removed all of the SHSH files EXCEPT the 4.2.6 one from the usb drive, shut her computer down and restarted, and now I will try yet again. Any advice?

    And, still no love...

    UPDATE!!!

Through a willy nilly mix of running Tiny Umbrella, Greenpois0n and iTunes, I think I confused the phone into submission. I did this repeatedly, for about two hours, just running the programs over the top of each other, after each other, etc, and slowly but surely I was seeing more text come up on the phone screen when I would hit the repair button. After one particularly discouraging result, I just sat there for a few minutes, and noticed that text started to dribble across the phone screen. Then more. Then even more, until it looked as though it was cascading. Then it did a couple of things and came up saying that I could make emergency calls, but it still showed the usb cable pointing towards itunes behind it. But, when I brought iTunes back up, it started the registration process, correctly ID'ing the phone and the 4.2.6 IOS, and lo and behold, the phone is back to a FRESH COPY OF IOS 4.2.6!!!!!

I'm thrilled, thankful for the help, and tired. Good night, and Merry Christmas....

*NEVER* Erase all content and settings on a jailbroken iPhone. Never, never, NEVER do this. It is almost never the right solution to the problem. If you want to wipe the phone and remove all personal data, restore it in iTunes to your desired iOS revision (using SHSH as needed) and do not restore from a backup. That is far less destructive than erase all content and settings and does not end with the phone in a boot loop. This is rule #2 of jailbreaking (rule #1 is never update your phone if you want to remain jailbroken until the update has been approved by the dev-team).

In any case, erase all content and settings has done just that. It has wiped the phone entirely (including iOS). You must restore iOS to your phone in order to make it work again. This means if you do not have SHSH on file for 4.x or 5.x, you will be forced to upgrade to 6.x. If you have SHSH, use TinyUmbrella and iTunes to restore your iPhone4 to the desired iOS.
