Hi, I was trying my first jailbreak (after seeing the Greenpois0n download on LifeHacker.com) on an iPhone 3G.

I couldn't seem to get it work running it on a Windows machine so I tried again on my Mac. Though I ran it multiple times it would still not jailbreak the phone; however, in my final try the phone stopped working. I tried to restore it w/ iTunes but got error 1601.

Is my iPhone now a paperweight? What can I do?

Not sure why but the phone seems to be working today. I'm going to try Limera1n, now.

Interesting... now I'm getting the same error (1601) after having tried Limera1n.

Limera1n seemed to be working well through the phone where I had to hold down both buttons, but when it went into DFU mode (and said, "wait") it would never come out of that mode.

I tried to restore the phone via iTunes but got error 1601 again.

Now I'm trying Limera1n again, but nothing comes on the screen and it just says it's "in DFU mode... wait" It's been like that for 10 minutes.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

i have the newer 3GS (10/04/10) with 4.1. i tried limera1n and nothing happened. tried Greenpois0n and now the phone is a brick i tried to do a regular itunes restore and got the 1601. i tried everything i can think of.

i dont wanna change the baseband, just want cydia.

Are you both stuck in DCU/Recovery mode (Connect to iTunes image) on your iPhone?

Error 1601 or 1602 when restoring iPhone or iPod touch in iTunes explains some solutions for 1601
