    Default why cant i boot into single user mode or terminal?

    am having difficulties booting into single user mode via apple key and s key after the startup tone, as described in this how to

    i wondered if its because im useing a windows keyboard, even though ive read the windows key should default to the apple key.

    so i found another way to get into single user mode by holding down f8 then entering some commands as described here

    but still no joy, no sign of terminal darwin thing.

    am i doing something wrong?
    is there another way i can get into single user mode without rebooting?
    could i use the commands from the second link from terminal in a normal running environment?

    please help im going mad not being able to do this

    forgot to mention its a 1.42ghz ppc mac mini currently running 10.3.9

    keyboard is connected via usb

    bump.. im the the same boat.. but on a imac with a windows logitech keyboard..

    please help..

    Not sure if this tip will work for genuine mac users. However, did you try editing the com.apple.boot.plist file in "/library/preferences/system configuration/" and disable the silent boot option so you have a few seconds to press any key to type in a kernel flag such a "-s" in Darwin before Mac OS X loads?
