I'm looking at putting a new video card in my computer. I have (I think) a nVidia Quadro FX3400 256MB DDR3 Dual DVI PCI-E ...Its not marked.

Anyway, Its from an older PC. First is it possible to get this card to work on my mac pro? If it is...is it even worth it? I do a lot of modeling in modo, maya and sometimes cd4.

If this is not going to work or not worth doing...is there a good card out there? I will have my mac pro hooked up to a 27 or 30 inch monitor soon. My current card is: NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT

I'm not an expert when it comes to video cards...just looking for something that will make my mac pro a lot better!

Should be able to work unless you're going SLI or Crossfire...

I am not doing any SLI or Crossfire. I bought my Mac Pro when they first came out with Intel. I can check more detail later today if you need it.

The more I search I seem to find no information.

I cant find drivers at all. Although, I did find a wiki:

The Mac Elite: Nvidia Rom

Basically you need to flash your rom? Has anyone done this? It doesnt list my card...can I still do it?

LOL...can't I'm broke from the Mac Pro. Anyway, so what you are saying is that hardware is stopping it from working or is it software? If it's the OS would a kernel hacked OSX make it work? If its hardware can I replace the motherboard?

Not that I really feel like replacing the motherboard...just curious on what is stopping it from working.

It's more like the absence of drivers... as well as EFI compatibility.

If you replace the motherboard you're just getting rid of the very thing you paid so much to have...—>the EFI+boot code.

Would it be worth to upgrade from my current GeForce 7300 GT to a GeForce 8800?..the upgrade kit on a lot of mac sites.

Also, I have the first Mac Pro...so I would have to buy the one with a specific bus speed. Is there much difference between the two 8800's?
