Medialink and Playstation 3

Hey everyone,

I own the new apple macbook, and a playstation3 so i would like to be able to stream media directly from my mac to my playstation through medialink.

However, after installing it i was unable to locate my playstation through medialink, nor can my playstation find my mac.

I have tried everything, i have searched on the net for solutions, i have turned off my firewall on my router and i have enabled sharing in system preferences.

I think it might be a router problem, because i am also unable to see my friends mac on my network. The playstation 3, and both macs are connected to the same network, and are all connected wirelessly.

My router is a Huawei D100 wireless router, where im using a official 3 usb dongle. I dont know what settings i could change in order to make it more open so that i can see my playstation and my friends mac.

Please help.

may have found your answer, i was having the same problem i have my firewall prefs on mac set to, only allow essential service. I use Little Snitch aswell.

I disabled both and the program works brilliantly

i enabled little snitch - still works

i then enabled essential services -- doesn't work - doesn't see PS3

resolution - ADD The program to Essential service pain via the + button on the firewall settings

Search for Medialink.prefpane click add and make sure its set to all connections

if that doesn't work then try this:

Go to Settings/Security/Firewall - select allow certian programs click '+'. Then in Finder goto wherevere you installed MediaLink.prefpane MediaLink.prefpane and choose add

then click on the MediaLink.prefpane press crtl and right click

click on reveal in finder

should then open up a folder called resources

Click ADD again in firewall settings, Drag the file called 'MediaLinkHelper" into the box to the right of Applications, then click ADD.

again let me know if you are successful as this may help others.

Ok once installed go into System Preferences.

Then go to: Security ->

Go to the Firewall Tab ->

Select -> access for specific Applications + Devices

Click the -> + button

At the top right is a SEARCH facility, search -> MediaLink.prefpane

Add the one that shows it is from: DRIVE\Library\PreferancePane\MediaLink.prefpane

Click OK

DO NOT CLOSE THE FIREWALL WINDOW, CLICK ON THE MAC HDD ICON ON DESKTOP

Then you need to go to the above

DRIVE\Library\PreferancePane\MediaLink.prefpane

Click on the MediaLine.prefpane file and SELCET -> SHOW PACKAGE CONTENTS

Go through the folder CONTENTS\MACOSX -> you will find a file called MEDIALINK

ON THE FIREWALL SCREEN PRESS THE + AGAIN

-> THEN DRAG THE MEDIALINK FILE INTO THE ADD BOX, AGAIN CLICK OK

repeat the above, this time going through: CONTENTS\RESOURCES\

this time you need to drag and add file: MEDIALINKHELPER

click OK.

FIREWALL SHOULD ASK IF YOU WANT TO GIVE ACCESS TO ALL INCOMING CONNECTIONS FROM MEDIALINK

click OK

then try linking with PS3

Rivet supports media streaming to the PS3 as well as the Xbox 360. I'm using it at the moment, and its head over heels better than the other competition.

OK, did all of this but No joy for me.

My macbook can see the PS3 but the PS3 cant see the mac. Any ideas ???

Try to boot first the PS3, then start Medialink. It worked fine for me.
