Disable Firewire/Efi menu
Hi everyone, this is my first post here, I have a Macbook 4,1 that recently had bootup issues, after meany verbose boots found that it was the firewire port, and deleting IOFirewireFamily.kext, my computer again worked as normal, without firewire obviously. Im completely out of warranty so a logic board swap is out of the question, i can manage to live without firewire, but the problem is, after combo upgrades it restores the file, and after installing snow leopard, it also is restored, anyway i just deleted and went on.
However with the latest (10.6.4) combo update, the computer crashes midway(Im fairly sure its because of this same problem), and ends up unbooting (have tried twice, and both times i ended up needing to reinstall SL), so what i want to do is disable firewire completely, not just deleting the kext, (in pc land i would disable it from the bios setup) so is there a way to do this?, an efi menu im missing or probably a way to prevent the computer from ever loading that kext. Thanks!
Edit: Adding info, just read about disabler.kext, is there anyway i may use it to disable loading of IOFirewireFamily.kext?
PS: In case you are wondering, i need to do the combo upgrade because i need windows, and boot camp wont let me install windows if i dont have the latest updates
