Hi, this is my issue; I have a macbook and when I turn it on the white screen comes on, it then proceeds to just go dark but I see the screen with a light pointed at it, the screen and mac stay awake for a few seconds and the it falls asleep. Sometimes the screen stays lit up for maybe a minute and in that minute the trackpad and everything works, I took it to the genius bar and the genius told me I had to replace the trackpad and video chip, I don't think that's the issue...does anyone know how to fix this?

I had a similar problem with a old iBook G3. Well, the graphics card cant be the problem, because you said you can still see something with a flashlight. I'm pretty sure the problem you are having is that the backlight is damaged, or that it is being incorrectly "told" to turn off. As to the trackpad, the same thing applies here. You said it worked for a little, but then it stopped. I would assume that this means there is a loose connection or something. If you could upload a video, demonstrating the problem in whole, that would be good.
