    Default Kernel panic 10.6.5

I've installed Mac OSX 10.6.5 latest build 10H54d delta on my iMac 24" allu(first gen).
After restart I get kernel panic screen. Shift restart end PRAM restart doesn;t work...

I get code 0x55bfc3 "unable to find driver for this platform ACPI " SourceCsche/xnu/xnu-1504.9.14/iokit/Kernel/IOPlatformExpert.cpp:1389

If anyone knows a solution-pls HELP!

I can access via fire-wire mode, backup all data and reinstall, but this mac has LOTS of data on it and it'll take 12-15 hours...

Maybe anyone knows how to reinstal SnowLeo OVER this one(like we did in older MacOs versions), without loosing all user data....

    Thx in advance!

I'm in the same boat as you except a little worse my DVD Drive has decided it doesn't like any DVDs at the same time so I have to run and get a new external drive as well. Any help on this would be much appreciated.

    Hello,

Probably late for an answer, but just to let you know:
I made the same mistake while installing 10.6.5 beta update and got the same problem with kernel panic grey screen on my Macbook Pro.
Solution: just insert Snow Leopard DVD and run normal installation. It will take ages, but in my case everything was preserved. And I mean EVERYTHING: files, settings, software, 3rd party software settings etc., etc..
Of course for security reasons I made a copy of all important data via FireWire mode, but it turned I didn't have to restore anything after reinstalling OS.
And that is why I like Mac ;-)

    Best,

    danielb
