Default How much ram can my iMac hold?

Recently got an iMac from a relative and it seems to be made in early 2009 (i think February) from the serial number. From measuring the screen it is 20" and I know it has 2 ram ports at the back. Im wondering how much it could hold because I know there are 4gb ram sticks but would they be compatible? Please reply if you know how much ram I could hold because I was thinking of upgrading to 4gb ram but if it can take more I might upgrade to 6gb. Also DDR2 or DDR3

Download this little program MACTRACKER. It'll show you all the specs for all Macs.

I'm guessing you have Model A1225, so you can fit 8GB of DDR3 RAM.
