    Default Help

    i got a powerbook G4

with mac osx 10.5 leopard on it. it seems to be very bugged, i also dont have the root password (i got the laptop through my work), i cannot put any file on the powerbook, it says i have no space, and when i check how much space i have left, i have over 40 gig left, i just dont get it.

is there any way to get it back to factory settings through singleuser mode? i know it is possible with tiger with rm -rf/netinfo commands, anyone have any idea what i could do?(i dont have any cd's)

    thank you

Use the Mac OS X DVD to reset the root password, this should work out. If you dont want trouble at all, just clean install 10.5 and your problems should be gone.

You can see those disk space issues if you have a permissions issue on the root of the disk that removes write-access from all groups...
You can check this by opening up a terminal and doing a "ls -l /" and verifying that write is allowed for the user class.

It is also possible that your Disk has a failure and is auto-mounting read-only.
If your disk is mounted read-only, then you can do the following: "mount -o remount,rw /"

If the second resolves your issue, you should run an Apple Hardware Test by holding the D key when you have your Mac OS X DVD in your drive, as it is probable that your hard disk may be failing.

i will try to do what you said adrian, and you guys seem to miss that i dont have any cd's for it or anything, so i cant reinstall mac osx, i just need a way in single user mode that the computer thinks its fresh from the factory(which you can do with 10.4 for sure) but you do it with the command netinfo, which they took out of 10.5 i believe.

any other suggestions while? if the thing adrian works i only need to get a way to get the root password and im ready to go, is there a way in 10.5 to change the root password? ive tried alot of things through single user mode(i might have fucked up the mounting thing cuz it didnt used to do that, i have hope in thats the harddisk issue)

    any suggestions, please?

    thanks

Buy a leopard DVD set and reinstall that iBook.
