    Default Have a "moving" desktop

Want to really impress your windows friends? Want to make them even more jealous?

Well, if you have QE/CI supported, you can run any screen saver as your desktop. Yes, a desktop where fish swim behind your windows, or cool color changes take place all the time.

First, get the free (yes FREE) widget called DeskSaver Plus
    http://www.columbia.edu/~slc2111/index.html
(or search for it at macupdate.com)

It installs a widget in your dashboard. Then, simply select which screen saver you would like as your desktop, and click on the "Run Screensaver"

    Suddenly your desktop is alive!

Notes: If you go into sys-prefs -> screen savers it stops the desktop one running. Simply restart it from the widget.

Also, if you have a screen-saver set to run, it stops the desktop one running. Again, restart from the widget.

Note : Of course, running screen savers uses CPU. so you will see a slight CPU usage. You can decrease the usage by going into sys-prefs -> screen saver and change the options for that screen saver. Drop the framerate. Lower the amount of items etc.

Extra note: If you run a MacBook Pro, and dont like the "whine/buzz" having a screen saver running as your desktop, stops your whine

Here is a (crappy) video of how it looks. (Using virtuedesktops as well)

Actually, here is an easer way to do this. Open terminal, type:

    "/System/Library/Frameworks/ScreenSaver.framework/Resources/ScreenSaverEngine.app/Contents/MacOS/ScreenSaverEngine -background"

without the quotes. Saves on apps . This runs your current selected screensaver as background, and you can exit the process by CTRL+C'ing in the terminal.

Hey, don't want to make a discussion, but
Want to really impress your windows friends? Want to make them even more jealous?
This can be done (i actually saw running) with windows active deskotp, basically you make an html with a java making some fun graphics and is done.

What i saw whas a applet who follow the mouse, with some dots making circles.

EDIT: I forgot, this is possible in windows 98 and newest.

like thats not going to look total bollocks on a windows machine. html and java? please... this is pure slick OpenGL we're talkin here

most of the things which can be done on OS X can be 'sort of' done in windows, but it doesnt prove a thing.
