This looks like a OpenGL problem.
I remember the days when I was using Callisto, I got that mouse tearing (as we used to call it at OSx86 Project) all the time when I get out of any app that uses OpenGL (iPhoto slideshow etc.). The solution was to switch the resolution do a different one, then back.
Of course we used an app called Mouse Locator to create a shadow for the mouse cursor. When the tearing occured, you would still see the shadow so it was pretty easy to go to dock and switch the res.
If you want to give it a try here is Mouse Locator.

You could probably use the keyboard to switch the resolution as well, but I'll let other member to tell you how...

Mouse tearing is also a problem but one i can live with, this problem makes the mouse pointer into a "fragmented" line stretching the full screen length, making the mouse unusable, maybe this is a different problem?

Maybe my previous post is a bit confusing. (long day yesterday...)
But as I said, when the mouse cursor dissapear, try to swith the display resolution to a different one, then back to the one you use.
If you manage to switch it using the keyboard, you don't have to use Mouse Locator after all.
