Well, I am no expert but I decided to do some digging (because you tweaked my curiosity gene). From what I have read it looks like this is designed so that it cannot be spoofed. In earlier versions of OS X (prior to Leopard) they used to use the MAC address to ID a system. But, as this can be spoofed they added the Hardware UUID in Leopard. The following text came from a thread on the InsanelyMac forum and it would also suggest that you cannot do this.

    3) The hardware UUID is basically a very large random number. I used UUIDGenerator to make one up. It doesn't matter what it is as long as it never changes for the life of the machine.

I found several developer forums that all talked about reading this string as a means to ID the system (cut and paste this into terminal).

    ioreg -rd1 -c IOPlatformExpertDevice | grep -E '(UUID)'

Probably not the answer you wanted to hear........
