    What is the best way to copy a DVD to make a backup? I haven't found any good solutions yet for the Mac....

    Depends. If it's a media DVD, try Handbrake. If it's more like data (i.e. App DVDs, etc) Disk utility does fine. (nothing against toast, it's just that it might cost money. And disk utility is part of Mac OS X.)
