It is definitely possible to do this with a 2nd generation iPod touch. You can simply jailbreak with Redsn0w 0.9 redsn0w 0.9beta3 [iPhone Dev Team] and then proceed to export the certificates. Afterwards, you should restore the iPod Touch in iTunes and let it activate via iTunes again.
When you said to restore and activate the ipod touch again with itunes, is that only to give the ipod touch a new certificate so it isnt shared with the iphone? I can skip the restore if I dont plan on using the ipod touch though correct?

Technically yes, there should be no negative effects of skipping the restore (it might even work with using both devices with push notifications, but I would not risk that)

is there anyone that is willing to donate me a certificate for my iphone 3g? i bought my iphone used so i have no idea which provider it is from. i have already tried 3 different simcards and no luck. This beats the idea of activating with a default simcard . Also, the fact that we need to restore to get a new certificate makes it hard to "borrow" a friend's. if there anyone nice enough to spend a few minutes of their time...please send me a private message with it.

    Thank you

Just a query, if I may, please.

The first post is kinda confusing... so what I understood from it, is
(I've got an iPod Touch 1g, btw.. will be using that to generate the certs):

1 Delete all files from LockDown
    2 Delete keychain-2.db file
3 Remove PUSH app(s), turn PUSH off.
4 Reboot iPod Touch, and it goes into an 'unactivated mode'
5 Connect to iTunes, and activate it.
6 This generates a new set of certificates for PUSH
7 Enable PUSH, install PUSH app. This registers/activates the certs.
8 Copy nimble to Library/Keychains, chmod and then execute it.
9 Copy .bin files generated, save.

****** Run Step 1 to Step 7 again so I have a different set of certs as opposed to .bin ones I just generated/saved for the LUCK USER*****

That's the procedure to generate unique certs right?

I understood the procedure to USE them in the "LUCKY DEVICE" .. not an issue.

Oh and also.. my iPod is already jailbroken, etc.

    - Will I have to jailbreak it again?
    - Do I lose my apps/settings/files?

    Please do let me know
I'll generate like 3-5 unique certs just in case someone else wants them

This is slightly the wrong order.
You need to install a push app, then run the push app to configure push notifications.

No you will not lose any data (except saved passwords in the keychain file)

I successfully (and easily) managed to get my PUSH notifications working on two 2G iPhones using this tutorial.

Thanks dtube, Olethros and others who created this tutorial, published here and provided support in the thread...

    Question Help please

Would it be possible for someone to explain to me how I do these steps in more detail please, The main thing is not knowing how to run things or make them executable etc., does it mean like in terminal on the iphone and if so how?
    Much appreciated:

    9) Copy the 4 .bin files to a safe directory on your Mac/PC using SFTP or iFunBox

    10) Zip the directory, send to the lucky receiver AND ERASE IT SO THAT ONLY ONE PERSON WILL HAVE THIS SET OF CERTIFICATES
Just to add I will promise 5 certs and maybe more if someone can guide me in making my first one...
