My question is, do these certificates generated by nimble are the same for his phone and mine, or nimble generates a new and different certificate every time its run?

I used blackra1n, this whole push problem can be avoided be activating with an AT&T sim before jailbreaking with blackra1n right?
If you do not follow the steps to remove the keychain (or just remove the certificates from the keychain) and then force re-activation. Then your friend and you currently share identical certificates.

In testing by the devteam, it has been identified that you can generally share the same certificate with up to 5 other iDevices without problems. Over 5 iPhones or iPods and you will definitely experience problems.

It is still recommended that you have a 100% unique certificate. This gives the best reliability. There are some developers who don't implement push properly in their apps and by having a 100% unique certificate, you minimise the chance that you have a problem.

Sorry for being dense about this, but would just doing a restore from iTunes put things in a state where I could re-jailbreak, grab the certs, then restore a recent backup, unlock, and install the certs I just grabbed?

Probably would work. I have not actually tested it so can't be sure. Was trying to recommend a faster approach that does not require restoring ipsw or restoring from iTunes backup.

This thing is really easy to do.

You just have to start with a fresh restored iPhone then activate it to a state where you can use it like an ipod touch. I did that by using my brother's old at&t out of service sim card. You don't actually have to activate it with at&t. Then I did all those steps. Got 3 unique Id's and push is working for me now.

I have 2 extra unique ID's if anyone wants it. I thought i would need extra's but I could just make a new one if I need to again.

Oh and to activiate. I'm assuming it would work with any at&t sim out of service or in service. Have a restored phone. Stick the at&t sim in. Plug it into itunes. It's activated! It will say "waiting to be activated may take some time" or something but just ignore that. As long as you can get to the home screen then you're activated enough to get the unique ID's.

It seems I might have some problems with push notifications. I gotta say it worked better than before I did any of this. Before I would get some random ass Notifications for applications I didn't have or something that was in another language. Since I did this Push Fix. I never got those anymore.

I guess it's working how it should except that some apps, it takes a while for me to get a Push Notification for something. It works fast for AIM but for apps like facebook or words with friends, I'll either not get or get notifications that were 30 minutes ago. Is this normal? I'm guess it's cuz i'm not using at&t. I don't know

Is there some kind of test to see if my phone is working right with push?

Are you sure you performed this procedure properly?

I find bargain bin a good app to use for testing push, if you turn on all the notifications for bargains you should be getting pretty frequent push notifications. Seems like it takes a little while for this app to start sending push notifications but once they start, it is nearly one ever few minutes.

Although Apple provides the central push server, individual push app developers still need to have their own servers behind that. Some of these individual servers can be overloaded or not working properly.

Some developers incorrectly use push, they use the wrong unique identifiers to associate with your device. This can cause problems if for example the push certificates are suddenly moved to another device.

Hi I was wondering if I could get a little help from this entire process.

I am using 3G iphone and I am not quite sure how exactly the first step is done.

-Start with a clean iPhone, after a RESTORE with a Pwned (Custom) IPSW *WITHOUT HACKTIVATION*

What exactly is a pwned ipsw and how do I make one? My guess is that it is some sort of iphone firmware backup that is already jailbroken?
Is this step required, or can I just restore with itunes and then jailbreak with blackra1n, then follow the guide from there.

I would also like to know if the process is possible with a ipod touch 2g. If not I guess I will have to do this with just the 3g iphone.

They are talking about pwnagetool, which is the only jailbreak tool to allow manual control over whether you activate via iTunes or hacktivate with pwnwagetool. On windows you can use custom ipsws that were made on a mac (your phone has to already be jailbroken to successfully load a custom ipsw on windows)

Now that redsn0w 0.9 is out, I would recommend against using blackra1n at all it has a much higher incidence of post-jailbreak problems. These can generally be solved but redsn0w and pwangetool get the jailbreak right first time.

It is definitely possible to do this with a 2nd generation iPod touch. You can simply jailbreak with Redsn0w 0.9 redsn0w 0.9beta3 [iPhone Dev Team] and then proceed to export the certificates. Afterwards, you should restore the iPod Touch in iTunes and let it activate via iTunes again.

I wonder if any of you guys have a spare set of certificates that could share?

I have 2G from USA and hacktivated for use in Europe. Unfortunately I cant get certs signed with original AT&T SIM card (was never activated).
