well i guess i can activate it the normal way through itunes since I'm an AT&T client to begin with, but at least i wanna be able to hack the crap out of it, since i can;t unlock it....so i guess jailbreaking is my question, since i will activate it through itunes

yes, it is. you cant unlock (unless you have turbo/stealthsim) but any o2 sim can be used

Did you get it figured out with the last step, because I am having the same problem. Everything works well up until the last step. Jailbreak.jar runs through says it will reboot, but doesn't. I get the itunes connector screen and nothing. I tried rebooting myself and nothing. Also I have version7.5 of Itunes on an Intel Mac with leopard. I finally got it to work and finish the final stage. I decided to try it on my g4 ibook rather than my new imac and it worked the first time. Probably would have eventually worked on iMac. You tube did not work after the update, but I used the installer to load some files from surreal and now it works fine. All I need is turbosim or stealthsim and I am good to go. Thanks for the guide and the help. Jason

kill the 'itunes helper' program using either task manager for windows or activity monitor for macs

if there is an update, you dont have to, you can ignore it
because you havent unlocked the iphone, the upgrade wont brick it or anything, but you wont be able to use custom apps or use other AT&T, o2 etc SIM cards
basically, dont update until your 100% sure you can do what you need to once the upgrade is completed.
