Is your disc MBR formated? You most likely need a GUID formated disc to install a retail here. Try to format a external as GUID form the installer disc and see if it shows up. Can you see the partitions if you select disc util in the installer? If not it might be your controller for hdd which fails as well.

Thank you for answering.
My Hard-Disk is formated as MBR because I have Windows 7 on it as well. I'd rather keep this format so as not to change everything (if possible).
From DVD, I get the "Still waiting for root device" by trying to boot from HD, or by plugging in a USB device with MBR format or GUID (all get stuck at the same point). I also tried the instruction "rd=disk2".
Booting from USB, I get the installer interface and in the Disk-Utility I can only see the USB I boot from. In case I plug in another external USB, it appears on the screen (it contained some Windows files, so I guess it had Fat32 format).
Do you think that my HDD driver fails?
Thanks

I think lion not support IDE HDD. Try using sata HDD
