Default Work-around the lack of Multimedia messaging

Alright, I'm not happy with the lack of video/picture messaging... that is one of the things I used the most on my T-Mobile Dash (which by the way I miss a lot but I'm hoping iPhone catches up to the rest of the apps)

I figured out a work-around that allows me to send pictures to friends and this is by using their carrier's phone email address.
For example, my boyfriend is on t-mobile... so I added his t-mobile email to his contact on my iPhone and now I can send him pictures through email but he receives them as multimedia messages on his Dash (of course I could also send him email but most of my friends do not carry the internet plan on their cell so they will only accept MMS)

These are the three carrier emails I know of.. if anyone knows others please post here (as with verizon you need to make sure this is the multimedia email... some carriers have 2 different emails for text and multimedia)
    1) T-mobile: 1+areacode+number@tmomail.net (ie: 13055557788@tmomail.net)
    2) Verizon: 1+areacode+number@@vzwpix.com
    3) AT&T: 1+areacode+number@mms.mycingular.com

So now you just need to ask your friends what company they're with and create that email address in your contacts so you can MMS to them anytime

Default Setting up MMS receiving on iPhone

Does anyone know the setting to put into the mail app on iPhone so that you can receive MMS msgs on the iPhone. When people try to send them to me, I don't get any msg at all, not even the text from the MMS so it would be nice if we could setup our mail with our 9digit#@mms.att.com mms email addy and actually receive them.

    :-)

One way would be if AT&T allowed you to forward all your MMS to an email address... but I'm not sure they do that yet.... I'm assuming the phone@mms.cingular is a regular email account and they could simply enter a foward-to email.... might have to call them and see if they'd do that.

I found this cool article online and answered my own question:
    http://www.iphonefaq.org/archives/97158

    Here's how to do it:

    1) open a photo on your iPhone
    2) click on the send photo link (bottom left hand icon)
    3) select to email the photo
    4) using the table below, enter the phone number of the person you want to send to, followed by the email prefix for their provider
    Service Provider MMS Email Prefix
    Verizon vzwpix.com
    AT&T/Cingular mms.att.com
    Sprint/Nextel messaging.sprintpcs.com
    T-Mobile tmomail.net
    Virgin vmobl.net
    Boost Mobile myboostmobile.com
    Alltel message.alltel.com
    Amp'd Mobile vzwpix.com

So, for instance, if you wanted to send an email to a Verizon user who's number was 8175551212, you'd send to 8175551212@vzwpix.com.
