Default Will .ogg files be possible?

    Hi,

thx to all the people working in the iPhone DEV team!
I'm looking forward to getting my iPhone from eBay and hope that it will be able to be unlocked some day. Until then I will use it as a cool iPod device and google maps toy ;-)

Until now I didn't have any iPod, so it was no problem to play Ogg Vorbis files with my iAudio X5L (with Rockbox on it). 60-70% of my songs are coded in the .ogg file format and so I wanted to ask if the iPhone would be able to playback ogg files too in the (near) future.
I read that the OS of the iPhone is based on Mac OS X, so maybe it would be possible to integrate the Xiph QuickTime Components (XiphQT) into the filesystem. The same way it's possible now for iTunes to play back ogg files.

Does anybody know something more about this?

Would be nice because I don't to recode all the files to mp3 or some other format ...

Thx and keep up the good work!

So there is no news to Ogg Vorbis?

Would like to know if it will be possible to replay ogg-Files. Maybe with an iPhone Perian Plugin? No idea?

I agree, it would be nice to play music encoded with FLAC or OGG (both free CODECs).

I haven't seen any information to suggest that Apple will include support for OGG or FLAC on the iPods. But will a company that thrives on controlling everything you do on "their" hardware allow for it - I am not holding my breath.
