One question, im sorry if it has been asked already but i didnt find it anywhere.

I just got an Iphone 3g Factory Unlocked. Was wondering if i need to unlock it before/after i jailbrake? Or will it be fine if i just jailbrake and put on 2.2.1??

If it is factory unlocked restore to 2.2.1 in iTunes (if not done already) then use quickpwn to jailbreak. Just make sure to not select "activate" in Quickpwn. iPhone will be still unlocked then but jailbroken - just like mine (see my signature)

hey i didnt find "activate" in Quickpwn.

i did it but had no service signal after the jailbreak.
also my MF is 02.30.03

any suggestions?

Restore to fw 2.2.1 in iTunes again and you should be where you were before - factory unlocked but no jailbreak. Are you on a Mac or windows-PC?

i already did that sorry for not mentioning. im windows based. So i gotta wait for a new realease from dev team? or can i try to unlock with yelowsnow?

eddie, in post #1 you are saying you have a factory unlocked iPhone 3G. Those do not need any unlock software. They are officially unlocked by Apple. You just have to insert your private simcard 8any carrier), connect to iTunes and it will be activated and unlocked.

2) then when i insert the sim(provided i had removed it beforehand) and its not giving me any signal or service from my sim... I connect to Itunes and it will be unlocked?

Ok, first things first: You got a factory unlocked iPhone 3G. Put in your private simcard (the one you want to use with the iPhone later). make sure to have iTunes 8.1.1 installed on your Mac/Windows-PC. Connect iPhone and PC, start itunes if it does not start automatically. Let itunes do its job. If the iPhone is a factory unlocked you'll see some screens popping up that let you register your iPhone with Apple... At the end the iPhone will be unlocked and activated - you can just start using it. You can go for any firmware upgrade cause your iPhone will always be factory unlocked at any firmware.

I have a similar experience with a friends phone a few days ago. You need to let it activate before running QuickPwn.

Once App Store and the working iPhone start bothering you and you want the iPhone jailbroken and Cydia as an alternate source for software on it, connect the iPhone (with your simcard in) again with your PC and start quickpwn. It will detect the iPhone and do its job. You will see one dialog where some things are to be choosen. On this one only activate "Cydia" - the alternate Installer.

In difference to step 8 in this tutorial, only activate "Cydia" there.

So restore to 2.2.1, let iTunes recongnize the phone and activate it. You will end up with a working iPhone that is not jailbroken.

jailbreaking is only an option you MAY choose, you dont have to unlock the iPhone, cause it is unlocked and will stay that way. I'd recommend to just do the first part now (activating with iTunes) and then get comfortable with the iPhone.
