Default WiFi problems - sometimes there, most often not

    Bought as 1.1.4 OTB.
    First "unlock" with TurboSIM.
    Later, bbupdater at iPhone terminal.
    (NEVER ZiPhone!)

Over time, WiFi started to see no more access points. If it saw them, just for a short moment, but could not connect. Every second week, WiFi is still stable enough to download an updated package. Distance to access points (tried various) does not matter.

Used PwnageTool to update a few times, last second tries were 2.0 firmware. No change in the situation at all (except I miss some of the 1.x software that was around back then, but not on Cydia, and even if it was, I could not install it).

Switched between 3.9 and 4.6 bootloader to no avail.

Tried to downgrade baseband through some tutorials, with no success (could not follow the tutorials 100% though).

One curiosity: the Terminal does not show a prompt even.

    Any ideas would be welcome

(and yes, I did RTFM and searched the forum for hours and tried a few tricks from other threads, but without success, and maybe the Terminal thing means a different clue to a different situation?)

The wifi problem has got nothing to do with zipphone.
Join the gang there are tens of thousands of guys with bombed out wifi and most dont even know it cause they dont use it.

A small price for hacking your phone. The guys who havent hacked their phones or upgraded their firmware have not had this problem.

The devteam seem to know what caused it. ANd have writen a fix. But Ive tried that fix on at least 10 phones and it hasnt helped a single time.

Changing your coms board may be the simplest fix till somebody comes out with a real fix.

I have a theory that get two phones with wifi issues and just swap both the coms boards and both will start working.
    Will be testing it soon.

Well, this forum has every opinion out there

I've read that ZiPhone was not the cause, and that it was the cause. Just included the fact to avoid the ZiPhone bashing answers many other topics have received

And I've even read on the official Apple forum that legit unjailbroken phones even had the same problem, so the small price is "no" warranty, not the problem itself

Most other topics I read were about greyed out WiFi, which is not the case here, that's why maybe the Terminal issue is related.

Do you hav a link to the devteam fix you mentioned? I'll gladly make the 11th try, even if chances are nearing zero!

Buyin ga new commboard would mean to wager that the new commboard wouldn't die as well after a few months - for nearly 200 Euros including shipping, I would probably look for a different phone instead.

I know quite a few of the guys bitching about the wifi problem on the apple site. All hacked then they virginize and try their luck with apple.
They know that they only way they can get Apple to change their phone is to
    a. Virginize
    b. Activate their AT&T connection.
Those that have the luxuray of doing this do it. And there are quite a few trust me.

Ive put a lot of effort into tracking down the truth behind this issue and have made friends with most of the top guys in the official support teams at vodophone and airtell.
Vodophone dont even want you to apply the apple released firmware updates.

Dont waste your time playing with the s/w Ive wasted hundreds of man hours.

For those with this problem you only have the following options.

    a. Replace the coms board. (And once you have it working stop hacking and playing with your phone).

    b. Buy another phone. There are some really cool iphone killers out there. Well at least 2 I know off.

    c. Pray there is a real fix out soon.

Ive been thru all the stages. Patchy wifi to no wifi to greyed out wifi to no wifi / blue tooth or Cell. You can normally get back everything but wifi.

Ps: Check out laptopZXY on ebay 80$ shipped to a US address for a tested Com board.

Be careful there's a lot of junk on ebay. I found this guy after getting ripped off a few times.

I still feel this is apples way of getting back at the jailbreakers. Take away their wifi and it puts a real damper on the party.

I also believe in what somebody posted above. i.e. get somebody with a working wifi to lend you their coms board. Dont ask me why but I feel it will work. As will just swaping two comms boards.
Will be testing all these theories on the 17th when I get a few iphones with dead wifi and a few comms boards.

Do you have any results from your testing?

I actually ended up ordering from laptopZXY, and have the comm board now. Bad experience by the way, laptopZXY's attempt to cheat customs by marking the package as a "gift" might have been a nice thought, but useless since it would have been duty free anyway (just not import taxes free), and only resulted in me being invited for a lengthy interrogation on tax fraud at customs where I had to pick it up

    A. My counter-reaction would be: sttop your arrogant attitude. I knew the risk, was willing to take it, but that does not mean I have to refrain from asking questions here, as long as I'm not whining. Your arrogant "I know it all but I don't tell you attitude" is the thing I hate about forums like these: someone playing the allmighty and scaring others who could have answered away.

    B. Great that you know some - I don't. Well, I know some, but where would be the fun in getting another toy instead of trying to repair the broken one?

    C. No wonder there's no fix. I came here because I've seen something I didn't see in any other report here, and decided to post to provide what little input I had, searching for help, but also trying to give back by trying to not whine but be productive about it. If everyone who comes here with such an intention gets pissed of by some arrogant "there's no fix, silly" guy like you, wher should the feedback leading to a fix come from?

Update: I finally got around to opening my iPhone, and when I finally had it opened and took out the replacement com board by laptopzyx, it was broken - the second antenna connector on the board is missing. So that guy basically send a broken board as new. Wouldn't call that "tested".

On the other hand, he's called laptopzyx, not laptopzxy as you mentioned - is that a typo by you, or another guy?

Has anyone else ordered from laptopZXY and still has by chance his postal address?

Need to ship a legal letter regarding the broken piece he sent me...
