Wi-Fi Stopped Working while Phone and iPod is fine
Hi,
I activated, jailbroke, and unlocked my out of the box iPhone for use on the Rogers (Canada) network. For the last week everything has been fine, but just yesterday the Wi-Fi no longer sees any networks. I've been trying to troubleshoot it myself, and here's what I know and why:
Wi-Fi Not Finding Networks
- Router was rebooted
- 3 other Macs and a PC on network can see and access the network
- Pulled out an old Linksys router and also was able to connect to it from my Mac
- The iPhone did not pick up any network all the while
Phone Still Works
- Able to make phone calls
iPod Still Works
- Able to watch videos and play music
The problem began when I unplugged the iPhone from the dock in the morning, it had been charging. When I tried to access the Internet, I was asked for the network password, which I had entered a week ago when I first got it unlocked. After two attempts at entering the password, I canceled and tried powering it down and then turning it back on. After this I was unable to see the network at all and that is the current state.
Third party applications I've installed, include VNotes, Installer.app, UIclt, Community Sources, Lighttpd, BSD Subsystem, and Services.app. I've since uninstalled UIclt. Speaking on pure speculation, the only app that might have triggered this is Services.app, but that's only because it can turn off Wi-Fi, searching around I haven't see this happening to people.
Speculation aside, has anyone else had this problem? What are my options here?
I've tried already:
Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Network Settings
Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset All Settings
Both have not remedied the situation. What are the next steps I can take? I've tried to be as detailed as possible, hopefully it's not overkill.

I haven't tried Stumbler yet, I don't think I can install it since my iPhone doesn't have Wi-Fi. Is there a way to install apps via the dock connection? I only know of sftp, through Independance, and Installer.app.
How is a soft reset performed?

I just performed a reset by holding the Sleep/Wake and Home down for 10 seconds and still the problem persists.

same issue here
I unlock my 1.0. 2 iPhone four days ago and I never switch off.
Now my iPhone is 1.1.1 and unlocked with anySIM.
Only today I've switched off and wi-fi is no more working; on lcd wi-fi is dimmed (grey).
My wi-fi network is fine; I've used another IpodTouch and I can surf on the internet without any problem...
any ideas?

As an update I should point out that my iPhone doesn't have the Wi-Fi greyed out, I can click it in Settings but the spinner just spins and doesn't find any networks. Also my IMEI is normal too. Can anyone help?

I am beginning to think this is a hardware defect. As an update, here are my symptoms:
Symptom's
- IMEI: Yes/Stock
- ICCID: Yes
- Repair not needed
- Audio: Yes
- Phone: Yes
- Wi-Fi: No
- Wi-Fi greyed out: No
- Unlocked: Yes
I have also now tried to restore the iPhone to 1.0.2 with iTunes. It is currently running 1.0.2 after being activated and jailbroken via independance. I cannot however upgrade back to 1.1.1 since I have no Wi-Fi and indepenance cannot create the symlinks it needs to for 1.1.1.
Can anyone give any insight as to ways of confirming it as a hardware defect?
Also, does anyone know exactly what independance does when the "Pre 1.1.1 Upgrade" button is pressed?

I've unlocked about 120 iPhones so far and out of that amount, I would say 4-5 phones had NO WI-FI right out of the box (It was greyed out).
Not sure if this helps anything or not but its worth noting quite a bit of these phones have defective WI-FI
