Im at FW 1.1.4 unlocked with Ziphone. Everything works.

Why would I want to upgrade to FW 2.x?

1. maybe because I want the cool search feature in my contacts, but, I already have contact search PLUS calendar search.

2. maybe because FW 2.x runs faster, not from what I see posted..

What is your reason for going to FW 2.0 on an already working unlocked gen1 iPhone on FW 1.1.4?

For me its simply because I enjoy experimenting and enjoy the challenge of unlocking.

And the app store is pretty cool

I don't think it's a cool feature at the moment, the contacts app is really REALLY slow on 2.0.
Once you click on the search box to put some letters, it takes over 5 seconds to show the keyboard and another 5 seconds to be able to type anything...
I think it will be fixed in 2.1 !!?!

for me I upgraded for 2 reasons:
1)AppStore
2)Arabic on 2.0 is much better, especially the keyboard.

arabic? what/where/when? Arabic is still broken. It is from left to right, letters are disconnected...so...no. Anyway, support will be full soon I assume before the iPhone hits Egypt.

Upgrade to 2.0.1 firmware...bugs have been worked out of 2.0....

and your right the itunes app store is very cool and SWEET.
got to like the free apps...

here is the link for iPhoneIslam.com... they are the owners of the arabic localization and they do sell it on their website

*Letters are connected, but still left to right (but have a fix for notes to support right to left alignment).
*No more using Russian keyboard, it's using it's own Arabic keyboard.
*Safari reads arabic sites correctly
*Search works with arabic names, you can type in arabic and search will find them correclty.
*Menus still not localized but based on iPhoneIslam it will be soon.

you will be able to install it via Cydia after you purchase it.

Think Locked was saying about Official Arabic support, from Apple. Not from 3rd party peeps.

the reason I posted to the Pwnage section is because my question is all about why someone would Pwn a Gen1 iPhone that was already unlocked.

So far nobody has given me a compelling reason, not even the reason that "I like to unlock my phone." The phone is already unlocked..

As to the I like the free apps in App Store.. OK, but I already have free apps

App store cant touch that

so I ask again, why would anyone want to Pwn an already unlocked Gen1 iPhone, just to run FW 2.x?

The only benefit I see is the ability to use App Store, which to me has no value.

The real reason for Pwnage to exist is to UNLOCK 3G iPhone, which it does not do.

The reason I moved you to General is because Pwning is the only way to upgrade to 2.x. so really the tool used is irrelevant if you're just asking "Why would I want to upgrade"
