    Default Why "return to Jail"

I've seen references here to people doing stuff with their phones saying that they are going to "jailbreak, do whatever it is and then return to jail"

what benefit is there in returning to jail? my phone seems to be fine (except I haven't yet figured out how to fix the YouTube stuff from a Mac)

    thanks

The only benefit I see in general is that returning to jail mounts the disk with all the applications on it as read-only. Since all the applications run with root privileges, that gives you some protection against messing up something important (or having someone exploit a security flaw and do the same).

As a one-time issue, I activated the phone with AT&T, but broke jail before trying YouTube. YouTube did not work until I returned to jail. Now it works in either state. I don't know if it is coincidence or not, but it seemed to help there.

Otherwise, there does not seem to be a lot of reason to return to jail (that I know of).
