Why not just roll back to 1.0.2?
Can't you just roll back to 1.0.2? I would think you could cause the restore process for 1.1.1 to fail by disconnecting the iPhone in the middle of the restore. Then connect the iPhone to an older iTunes to restore 1.0.2.

with iPhone you only go forward so you can never roll back. so if your driver is version 2 and you try to install version 1 it will not do it. also if the river didnt change it doesnt install it.

So when in restore mode you could not put it on another machine and restore to 1.0.2?

Its not which computer you are connected to, its what firmware is on the phone. If the phone has a higher version, it will not take a lower version.

Actually that's only true for the radio firmware (aka baseband). The OS firmware can be downgraded.
Cheers.
