Discuss Why do IPSW files download as zip files? at the General - Hackint0sh.org; every time i try to download a firmware version (.ipsw) when it finished downloading it ...

    Unhappy Why do IPSW files download as zip files?

    every time i try to download a firmware version (.ipsw) when it finished downloading it became a zip file...!!!!!!
    i tried 3 times but no way!!

    Are you on a Mac? Probably using safari. Use Firefox for the download then, tahts the easiest way.

    If you already downloaded the firmware (on a Mac) and the file ends ...ipsw.zip just delete .zip so the file ends ...ipsw. You will be asked if you want to keep .zip or .ipsw choose .ipsw and you are done.

    open Terminal.app

    type:

    curl -O http://some.path.to/the/ipsw/file.zip

    hit return

    wait for the prompt again

    type:

    open .


    magic.

    its working now i had 2 go 2 control panel>>folder options and unmark hide extensions its now working

    i think with windows it just does .zip and you have to change it to ipsw..... i do it all at the same time so it really doesnt bother me much

    these things are basically archives so browsers see them as such

    nope on windows itr remains ipsw

    oh well it depends on where you get the link from, cuz for me it has downloaded as a .zip with no ipsw anywhere in the name

    No, it depends on the browser settings. When using Apples Safari and use the default setting "Open secure files after download" they end up *.ipsw on your desktop. When not using the default setting it will end *.ipsw.zip
    In this case DONT unzip it, just rename *.ipsw.zip to *.ipsw

    just use google chrome i use it as my default and it works good never has downloaded an ispw as a .zip
