Default Why Is Apple Doing This To US? And To Themselves?

I really do not understand this business and please help me understand why is apple selling these god damn iPhones locked to specific networks?

I understand that there where millions involved in contracts between Apple and AT&T/O2 and other providers, if they raised the price just by little they could have made more money.

And by making it unlocked in the first place, more people would buy it.. I know a good number of people who would have bought an iPhone but didn't because they didn't want to bother with hacks and work-a-rounds.

    Just please help me understand..

    Cheers,
    Ben.

    Simply put: Its Apple.

Overpriced, self-egotistical company based off of a monopolistic ideal.

by little? LMFAO! it's 30% revenue share. the cheapest ATT plan is about $80/month, out of which, apple gets $24/month. that's at least $640+tax, not to mention other a lot more expensive plans.

ALOT of phones come locked in every country apple are not the first to do it but they are the first to have revenue from the contracts (so i think)

But the reasons for having a locked phone normally are simple

A operator company buys the mobile device from a manufature of the device
lets say o2 and sony ericsson, 02 pay sony x amount of money for exclusivity to sell there phone,
o2 pay 300 but sell the phone for free locked on a contract for 18 months
the person has to stay with o2 for 18 months or pay termination fees
during the 18 months 02 make lets say 900,
50 a month thats profit of 600 for o2 and around 150 for sony so both companys are happy!

The least that they could have done is a global release..

I don't think it was smart from Jobs to lock the iPhone to only specific carriers from 3 or 4 countries...Selling an unlocked iPhone would've produced much more revenue than having an exclusive contract with At&t, according to my calculations. Besides, if 3g iPhones are released...what'll happen to at&t's contract?

    No it's called capitalism
New products are always over priced t help pay for the years of R&D
If you want to be a pioneer you have to pay for it.
    You have choices,
    1) buy a hacked iPhone
    2) by a Blackberry or another competing product
    3) Buy Apple Stock and get ready to make tons of profit.

It's simply good business. Apple knows what it's doing. put out a product that we want, but with a catch. a phone that does not have ALL the features we expect, but make it good enough for us all to buy anyway. THEN, when the next version comes out, make it slightly better, and keep doing so, forcing us to buy every new version just for minor fixes we wanted from the beginning. they've been doing it with ipods for years.
