I do not think Apple will keep different firmwares on a per country basis. If they need to update for the UK launch on the 29th, then it will be 1.1.2, and not 1.1.1-UK.

Also, a close look at the state of 1.1.1 show that it's rather a "work in progress" rather than a "tested" firmware. Sounds like Apple released 1.1.1 as a interim firmware in a "futile" attemp to stop the unlock frenzy.

There are serveral components that are needed for the European networks that are still hard coded in 1.1.1, while others can be configured. So it points for a new firmware soon.

But, I do not think Apple will have time to update to a new totally new "jailing" format, but for sure some simple holes will be filled. There is simply not enough time to develop and test.

So in summary: I think it will be soon, but the "locks" will be very similar.

I don't think they do, do they?

Sure they have "international support", but I've just enabled that in my US-purchased iPhone via a plist tweak.

I'm pretty sure our US phones will be on exactly the same firmware version as the UK, perhaps with further hidden plist settings, but the same firmware. "a different revision of 1.1.1" is, in fact, an oxymoron... by definition, if it's 1.1.1, it's the same...

Agreed, and I think they will at the very least fix the TIFF exploit in 1.1.2....

Well, that is just an overlook, and it requires just updating the TIFF library and a rebuild. Not a hard one.

France will have factory unlocked iPhones. So maybe a different firmware for those.

    iPhone (OTB 1.1.1 / Currently 3.1)
    Unlock, activation, jailbreak: PwnageTool 3.1
    City Fido, Vancouver
