Well we are on their forum, and I've only followed two teams, GeoHot, and DevTeam. So far, they've done well, they're contributed as far as I know, but will they have an unlock of their own?

Please! If you dont know, dont call other unlockers "thieves".

There are others than this Dev Team are working hard to unlock the iPhone.

    You simply dont know.

If you want to wait the Dev Team, then it is fine. Wait for them.

If you think that you would buy the software unlock from others then go for it.

Dev Team choosed to not communicate the progress, so be it.

Maybe (maybe ... maybe ...) they are preparing a surprise (I doubt that).

Or maybe they just GAVE UP (most likely!) ...

I'd rather pay the DevTeam. Thats all I'm saying. There haven't been much updates on either places to look, and RIGHT NOW with the release of other softwares, Where is the DevTeam in all this?

there's no need for any speculation. given the sensitivity of the software unlock method i have no problem with the DevTeam not releasing info on their progress.

whoever first get the software unlock to the market would win the bragging right. however, i trust the DevTeam have made significant effort in the unlocking of the iphone.

I think that is what the previous 2 people have tried to communicate to you - in a sort of humorous / patronizing kind of way.. Shame on them

There's noone in here (with the exception of the dev team) that knows anything about the dev teams status, except for what is written in the sticky threads in there.

The wiki site has been attacked by spam lately, and there's really not been anything new on it for days now. The sticky thread has some information that is newer than this.

I've donated to the dev team, and even though they might not be the first to release a S/W unlock I would've still donated! They did a great piece of work activating and developing the software now used to unlock the phone and write programs for it.
This too warrants donations. It's not only the unlock that deserves attention here

I merely said, as some of us might think, I never pointed fingers and said they're thieves. We're free to think. Plus, I also never said there are no others working on it. I merely said, DevTeam have contributed and they also deserve some credit, as I followed them, I stick to them. Note to all, I do not think any of the publishers are thieves or watever, but I merely think that we should recognize those that have contributed, thats all. In true hacking community spirit, all should be "OPEN SOURCE". Anyways, I fear that if this continues there will be flames thrown back and forth, therefore I would bow out of this one, and leave my final words, if the devteam comes up with an unlock, i'm donating to them and recognize them for their hardwork, and if they don't release the unlock before the publishers, I will go that way, but i feel like some recognition should be given to all developers, including DevTeam if any as well as GeoHot, and all others.

Who is fixated on that? But the Dev Team DID provide a lot of the tools that are now used to diagnose the phone, and used to program for the phone. That is a fact that is often overlooked because people tend to fixate on the unlocking of the phone as the major achievement.
It's true the Dev Team has shared very little with the world about the actual unlocking - the things the Dev Team has shared about it has been shared through geohot afaik.
And the dev team is clearly not the only group that works towards the unlocking - who said that?

The comment about "thieves" was made not to insult people or to say that they have stolen the Dev teams work. Clearly they have done something for them selves, seeing as the dev team hasn't unlocked anything with software yet.
And of course there are others working on the unlock, who said there wasn't? I seem to remember TurboSIM, GeoHot's soldering method, uniquephones, simfree.. etc.. So yea, I'd say there are others working on it. Noone in here will make the claim that there isn't :p

I agree and there is a nice saying: "after the war, there are many heroes..." if you understand what I mean. Look at the progress the Dev Team made (Wiki) and then check out when the "other" teams (?) were starting to announce(?) their progress and especially the steps they left out (the steps which were done for them by the Dev Team :p). Now commercial companies come up with a software solution and surprise, surprise...only a couple of days after Geohot actually showed them how to do it. Don't forget that commercial unlock companies have years of experience, the latest equipment and a couple of talented hardware and software engineers. I don't say they've stolen the Dev Teams work but using 90% of it, throwing it Geohot's "discovery" and calculating 1 + 1 doesn't mean it is really honest (from a moral AND legal point of view) what they do (or did).

The saddest part is that a lot of people start to kick the Dev Team in the a.. because they weren't the first coming up with a software unlock.
First, the Dev Team promised a FREE unlock. Second, I still haven't seen a software unlock yet and third, even if it comes, who tells us that it is one that sticks and not one which is actually only "tricking" the baseband through some sort of firmware patch, a solution which would be rendered useless with a firmware update by Apple.

Without the Dev Team and this forum, most of you guys would look at a nice piece of useless brick and/or at a better iPod only. Keep that in mind before you start blaming the Dev Team. Thanks.

Are you saying I'm blaming the DevTeam? I'm one trying to get them credit... I am trying to say that the DevTeam have worked their butt off, so lets give them credit, and if they come out with the unlock, lets donate to the DevTeam instead of paying the commercial unlocks... Re-read my posts.
