Default Whatever you DONT do 1.1.1

I bought an iphone off ebay the other day, got it delivered and its locked. All was well as I have a mac and I never get automatic updates for itunes. However I used iNdependance to run jailbreak (the software that allows you to write files, and break free of ATT. However that runs on Itunes 7.4 I had 7.3, well i downloaded an upgrade (which you must NOT do find another source and download 7.4.1, because if you dont you will end up with the lates firmware which will put your iphone onto 1.1.1) and guess what, I now have an expensive paper weight.
I have tried everything on two computers, one mac, one windows to try and downgrade back to firmware 1.02. it can be done but the computer will not restore to allow jailbreak. Those unlucky ones like me that have a brick, will be waiting for the dev team to come up with a jailbreak compatable with 1.1.1. until then I can only fondel my iphone lovingly and imagine what it can do.
The irony of this story is that I live on a small island called Cyprus and if we had a carrier big enough to attract the iphone, I would not be out to hack my phone,I would gladly pay for the subscription. I was left with no choice.
Apple starting to look as greedy as Microsoft me thinks...birds of a feather!

So you had firmware 1.0.2 and you manually upgraded to 1.1.1?

Hold on there... iTunes updated your iPhone to 1.1.1 without asking you first? Wasn't there any sort of warning?

Bullshit, iTunes will always ask before upgrading your iPhone. So the blame is upon you.
I restored using 7.4.1 and unlocked using that same iTunes.
So, you hit the upgrade for iPhone, not iTunes I presume.

Yep, I was about two mins from unlocking, but because iNdepedence did not work with itunes 7.3 I downloaded the latest version which was 7.4.2...I did not realise that the lates version carries the 1.1.1 firmware with it...I was so bloody close. If I had downloaded itunes 7.4. manually, I would not be looking for jailbreak for 1.1.1 which has not been developed. I can resore via my other computer the iphone to the yellow triangle( which i believe is 1.02) instead of the new symbol which is the connector cord and the itunes symbol, however the computer keeps telling me that the iphone cant be restored and therefore its not recognised within itunes, meaning that I cant progress with iNdependence and jailbreak.
Yes this was all my fault and I should have done more research on the itunes side of things, however I have faith and believe the iphone dev. team will find a solution within the next coming weeks.

i think he might have used the restore method without knowing that the restore would put 1.1.1 on his phone, lets not be harsh on the guy.. I think we have to be constructive not aggressive, he is obviously new to this game, and we all know that iTunes cannot upgrade without permission and passing of at least two accepts and stuff, so dont throw your toys out the pram and lets help this guy

Currently there is no Jailbreak for 1.1.1, but there is one on the horizon, so hold tight. Alot of boffs are even speculating you will not even need to re-unlock your phones as the problem is that we cant break the Jail, so we are waiting for news from the other side But as for me i dont think i will be upgrading as im happy with my modded 1.02 and i can do what i want with it. also ive fixed the volume problem anyway using a fix that some people say didnt work for them. And if they want to release a iTunes which makes you upgrade then i ust wont upgrade my iTunes.

    Good luck fella

itunes 7.4.2 does not come with the 1.1.1 update. The update alone is 152 Mb and itunes is only 49Mb It would have asked you if you wanted to update then downloaded the file which would have left plenty of time to unplug the phone if you did'nt want to update.

chances are the phone came with 1.1.1 and thats why you couldn't jailbreak. independence doesn't even need a new itunes.

Please learn to read up a bit before hand it can save you and the forums alot of trouble.

you should have checked the firmware staight out of the box by

(Help for others: You can check if its preinstalled by going to the emergency call, entering *3001#12345#* then pressing "Call". Versions = 0.314 is the same as firmware 1.02)

You can check what firmware is preinstalled by going to the emergency call, entering *3001#12345#* then pressing "Call". Under Versions you will find what revision firmware is on the phone out of the box.

    03.12.06_G Is firmware 1.0.0
    03.14.08_G Is firmware 1.0.1 and 1.02
    04.02.04_G Is firmware 1.1.1

Thanks bill for your understanding, yes I am new to all this and believe me in this country where I am the still use telephones with wires attached lol.

I tried the code sequence (thanks) and it came back as 04.01.13_G

    so I assume thats 1.1.1. ?

For all those with constructive help I thank you, and for those who wish to bash, its so unimportant, I care not to lower to reprisal.
