Default What do I need to do to take iPhone to Genius Bar?

My touchscreen has been doing some weird stuff, but I activated my phone for my previous ATT account through iNdependence, so I'm guessing I can't take it in.

Since I don't have an iTunes "activation" can I not bring my phone in for service? Is there a way to restore it and activate it on a prepaid account or something?

I really have no idea what my options are and I can't seem to find the info. Any help would be tremendously appreciated.

I just took a semi-bricked phone to a Genius yesterday (1.0.2 to 1.1.1 to 1.0.2) and they immediately told me they could not do anything with it. They could tell it was modded because "incorrect sim" showed on the screen even though imei matched.

My suggestion is if you don't have that "incorrect sim" and the imei matches, you'll be fine.

They wanted to do a restore on the phone and they said it would be a permanent brick if i had ever tried to unlock it (i did) and they performed the restore. i played dumb and said "i don't know, it's my friend's phone, but to be on the safe side, i'll just take it back to him and have him come in himself."

    good luck!
