Default What to do with a brand new sealed iPhone?

Hello, this is my first post. I've read the stickies..

I still have some questions. I'll be getting soon an iPhone from an apple store to be used in Canada.

I was wondering what had to be done in order (step by step) to USE a brand new iPhone in Canada. Most threads, people just talk about unlocking/jailbreaking a phone that was already hacked.

So, I get my iPhone, open the box, then what?

Do I activate with itunes first, or that's not a thing to do since I want to use it in Canada?

Do I just plug the iphone in my computer, open ziphone, and click do it all? Do I have to get in recovery mode? Activate with itunes first then close??

I just need a simple step by step of things to do when I plug an Iphone for the first time! I read it only takes a few minutes to do with ziphone, can somebody be kind enough to just explain step by step what to do please?

    Thanks a lot!

i remember a thread where something was discussed.

This only works for 1.1.3 (PC instruct)

    1-obtain and install itunes 7.6.X
    2-run itunes
    3-unpack the box
    4-connect usb to pc
    5-let itunes detect
    6-close itunes
    7-kill ituneshelper/ipod service
    8-power phone w/top power button
    9-release power when logo appear
10-press and hold home button for recovery mode
11-wait for connect to itunes picture
12-run ziphone (for 1.1.3, do it all)
    13-watch script execute
    14-phone will reboot when done
    15-springboard appears w/no service
    16-disconnect usb cable
    17-paperclip remove the AT&T sim
    18-put your sim in
    19-wait for service.

if not, turn off phone, boot normal.

    your post was somewhat wrong.
to "activite" in itunes means to accept the contract.
that's why ppl close itunes and kill its processes.

in the ziphone package, theres itunesmobiledevice.dll, ziphone uses this to connect to the phone (instead of itunes). the phone thinks that itunes is detected, but in reality ziphone's disk image was mounted.

for other questions and issues search around.
most ppl dont have this level of time to hand hold.

Difficult question bro... try posting it in the advanced section

    If not, just try this:

    >1. CMD "Power On"
    >2. If "Power On" = "OK" goto 3 else 4
    >3. End
    >4. CMD "Plug it in"

It's a bit complicated but you should be ok!

    Good Luck!

Hey guys, thanks A LOT for the answers. I actually expected to get flamed for being a noob, but you guys helped me a lot! This forum rocks!

I just have one more question.

This tutorial (http://iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=667) uses ziphone but it looks like an older version. The one I download is the 2.4 GUI, the newest one on the website.

In that tutorial, it says to put the phone in recovery mode before doing the rest of the steps. But in the answers replied in this thread, wackotm said to do it while the user lioxphone did not mention it. Do I have to get into recovery mode or was this only for the older version of ziphone?

    Thanks again for your time

Just open the Ziphone 2.4 GUI Version, go to the advances options.
    Check the following boxes:
    Jailbreak
    Activate
    Unlock sim Card

    Then click on perform options.
And just wait. Nothing more, nothing less.

Yes, that is correct. V 2.4 automatically does it for you. So, essentially, you just plug in the phone and click.

This version has worked great for me even repairing bricked iPhones. I personally donated $$ and I urge everybody to do the same.
