A way to choose which firmware to restore to?
Hi
My iphone is due to arrive on Monday (Aussie time, so Sunday US time). I've got all my crap together ready to do the unlock, but knowing my luck apple will release the new firmware today, or tomorrow, or sometime before I get my phone
Now I figure this'll screw me, as the very first step I need to do is take the phone out of the box, and do a restore in iTunes so that the 1.02 firmware is installed on it. So if the new firmware is released, the iTunes restore is going to put that firmware on and I assume (cause I'm unlucky), the activation and unlock will fail).
So, is it possible to force iTunes to restore to a particular firmware version? On Windows? I heard on a mac you can press ALT and Restore and it gives you a choice, but what about in Windows?
If not, is there any other way to upgrade the firmware to 1.02?
Thanks a lot for your help, as always
Great community here

on a PC when slecting restore in itunes, hold down shift, it will bring up a browse menu (or i think you can just disconnect from the internet and it asks you to locate the file)
i downloaded a the previos firmwares, i would sugegst you search around for them too

Can anyone confirm if the "Hold shift while restoring" approach works on a mac aswell? I am also expecting a second iPhone for the wife, but probably the new firmware will be out by then. I would need to go from 1.0 to 1.0.2.
So can I manually select 1.0.2 as an upgrade in itunes on a mac?

If you have an iPhone why don't you try this yourself and let us know... you don't have to actually restore, just go through the paces but do not select anything once this comes!
