    Default [WARNING] Third Pary Accersories

I think this is a lawsuit waiting to happen or at least I hope a lawyer can fill me in.

According to Apple and stores you can use the Bose Dock system since they share the same ports as the ipod, however they fail to mention that iPhone consumes more power then the ipod so it can actually fry your phone internals.

I spoke with the Apple rep to confirm this. I almost fried my phone while using a speaker system until I noticed my phone screen going crazy on me.

Apple should make this clear on their support page too.

Unless it saids Made for Iphone and that happens i dont think you can do anything about it.

Most box's for speakers/carkits/other crap have what ipods they are made for. Befor i even buy a item for my iphone i make sure 100% that it works with it and is safe.

So in other words make sure it is made for the iphone. Check the box/doc's or call the 1800 and ask. If they say its not supported dont use it

I have called Kplisch and they think their items will work based on the 30 point ports all ipods uses but they weren't even aware of the power difference on iphones.

Can you explain this in more detail? I had an iPhone go very weird on me months ago... The screen was all wavey with different colors (purple, green, white, black, etc) and the phone became completely useless. First I lost wifi, then when I attempted to restore the phone the flash was dead and it failed. This all happened within 6 hours of the 'crash' by using my Pioneer car charger/dock...

I've been using it almost daily on my new iphone, but is there a risk of me ruining this phone again?? You would think that the phone only consumes what power it needs.

From my understanding, unless you supply more voltage to the phone, pulling more amps shouldn't harm the phone... worst case it would harm your dock.

Reading from others post of using your iphone with other speaker docks items, it is frying the phone. My phone works fine until I connect it to the Athena Speaker dock and then it starts to act weird where my screen wouldnt stay on even after I pull it out. I had to turn it off immediately and turn it on. I tried it again and did the same thing, I am very positive that the phones have diff pwr levels since its a phone as well. MIght be worth a try using airplane mode to see if it makes a diff but dont want to risk it.

Fit for purpose I think is the phrase, and if an accessory does not indicate that it is iPhone compatible and a consumer uses it on that accessory, it is the consumer who is at fault. If on the other had an accessory is advertised as iPhone compatible and it is proven not to be, then the accessory manufacture is responsible. Apple will indicate on their site if they have tested a product against an accessory. If no such indication, and the customer uses the accessor and the product in question, Apple is in no way responsible. It all boils down to Fit for Purpose.

Did you read the link which I posted? It says they have same ports so it should work with most items.
