    Default [Warning!] QuickPwn and 2.0.2

People seem to be using QuickPwn and a 2.0.1 ipsw to jailbreak their 2.0.2 phones. This may seem totally OK, but you are playing with fire here. What you are doing is flashing 2.0.1 stuff to the NOR on a 2.0.2 iPhone. Please also know that, on the flipside, you can't brick your iPhone. It is just a risky thing to do. Worst case scenario is you needing to have a DFU restore because you flashed older stuff to the NOR of your iPhone than what is intended to be there.

    Just letting everyone know

I would wait for an official release of quickpwn for 2.0.2 before doing anything! At the moment I would rather have 2.0.2 since it helps the reception and whatnot. In the meantime I will be waiting for a release from dev team!

Also, doing QuickPwn would update your baseband, potentially screwing up the chance for you to unlock if you wanted to...

I read this by another member :

Files responsible for jailbreak are the very same from 2.0.1 and 2.0.2. So, by using QuickPwn -- which in fact is just a Jailbreak tool --, you can jailbreak your 2.0.2phone using 2.0.1 files.
Is that not the case then ? I did indeed try the procedure and it works fine, my iphone didnt crash or seem unstable.

Chronic is just pointing out the risk you put your iPhone at. Trust him!

I wont try this on one of my iPhones, I dont want to end with a brick or experience other strange behavior later.

Flashing NOR? Baseband? WTH are you talking about?

QuickPwn just jailbreaks phone and writes patched files to flash memory. Read again DevTeam statement about the tool: it only works on S5L processor, not on S-Gold. There is no NOR involved. Unless DevTeam is lying to us.

It's common practice to reutilize software, and in FW 2.0 lots of code are the same, fortunately including lockdownd.

If you do not believe QuickPwn does nothing on NOR, where are 3.9/4.6 bootloader files? What is the tool doing, then, missing these 2 critical files?

QuickPwn only send UPDATED, patched lockdownd and related files to your phone, nothing less, nothing more. Just the same unlock we did way back with 1.1.X image (was it TIFF or GIF?) exploit, but now using a communication method which Apple is unable to patch via Software.

Of course people should wait for tested tools, but others can have some fun as well.

    _________

    EDIT:

The only valid reason I agree to not let average people to just use old files on new firmware is, if Apple do changes something on new releases, and you put old files, you may end with issues on your phone, and yes, a DFU restore may be needed. However, this is not the case for iPhone OS 2.0.2.

In other words, the famous "real hack" Zibri is talking about?

This QuickPwn seems pretty interesting, waiting for the Mac version to give it a spin.

    hm wow..

I don't know.. I did it the quickpwn way and my phone seems to be working absolutely flawlessly.. For sure better than it was working under 2.0.1

Is it dangerous to use the phone now? Or is it just dangerous to jailbreak it this way?

Would you recommend me to do a restore to original 2.0.2!?

    thanks
