Today I had friends in the US who went to the ATT store twice and both times were not sold an iPhone for some reason.

Can you tell me what needs to be done to walk in, buy it, walk out?

I have a relative coming from the US (I live in Canada) and I want him to pick me up one...

I don't want the same thing to happen twice...

am I more likely to get one at Apple or ATT store? thanks...
Actually a friend of mine had the same problem buying it for me from an Apple store. I think it had to do with him having a foreign CC. At the time, he sent me an SMS saying they won't let him out of the store unless he made a contract with AT&T. I told him they were full of shit, it said right on the Apple website that you can do the activation at home. He went in next day and got it .

I think the best way is to go to an Apple store, and pay in CASH. Just to avoid any hassle.

I walked into Apple store in Fifth avenue and paid with my British Mastercard and they didn't ask any questions, only to see proof of identity but all I had was my business card on me at the time which they accepted.

I bought my iPhone also on 5ft avenue in NYC and i said to one girl there an iPhone please and gave her my credit card. Then she gave me this strange look and said that it is for us only and it won´t work in Europe. I told her i will buy it anyway and she said no problem

I bought mine in the US from AT&T whilst on business from Australia. Just told them it was a gift for "the relatives" I was staying with. No more questions asked....

I walked into the AT&T store in Orlando, said I was going to try and activate it on the Gophone plan as I'm from the UK. The said to put all he 1's in for the social security number and sold me the iPhone.
No probs, but, 3 days after I return to the UK Steve Jobs announces the price cut

Same here, do you know if there is any way to get the 200$ refund?. I called Apple and they said I have to go to the store where I bought it from and present the receipt.

If you figure out something, then let me know.

So how did it work? Did you give them your credit card details again? I mean what details did they ask from you? which store was it?

I paid on my Canadian Visa and they didn't say anything about it. This was at an AT&T store.
