I have setup VPN and it can connect to my office network after it authenticates my login/pass. But I cannot access any internal network sites like intranet etc. When at work or when using VPN from my laptop I just type in the local site name in any browser and it connects to it. But when I type it in Safari after VPN is connected it tries to connect to a www version of the website as it automatically adds ".com" at the end.

So how do people use VPN on their iPhones?
