i have 3 jailbroken/unlocked iphone 2g's with t-mobile US service. on one of the iphones, whenever i power it on, it shows the red dot on the phone icon that indicates i have a new voicemail. i call to check my voicemail, but i have no new messages, and when i hang up the red dot is gone.

if i enable airplane mode and then disable it (switch cell service off and back on), the red dot appears again, even though i have no new voicemail. i just have to check my voicemail to make it disappear again.

this problem appears to be linked to the sim card since it occurs on whichever phone has that particular sim. this problem has existed for as long as i can remember (from iphone OS 1.1.x to the current OS 3.0).

has anyone else experience this? and if so, is there a way to stop getting the voicemail indicator to show up whenever cell service is enabled?

It is indeed a problem with the sim card and it being an older version. The fix is to go to a T-Mobile store and get a new sim card. If your lucky they might not charge you otherwise I believe it's $19.99.
