Default Visual Voicemail without AT&T: So easy a hacker-caveman could do it

    (1) Subscribe to a voicemail service that e-mails your voicemail to you, here's a random example: http://www.callwave.com/widgets/ureg.aspx

    (2) Enter GSM code on your iPhone to re-direct to your subscribed voicemail phone number in (1) above when phone not answered after X rings, instead of your provider's default

    (3) You now have e-mail voicemail on your iPhone, with meta information (from: phone number, date/time stamp, etc).

(4a) Someone figure out how to make the iPhone think it's subscribed to AT&T's "visual" voicemail... then make a script to run every 30 seconds, check the inbox to see if there's a new message, convert to .AMR and drop into the ~Library/Voicemail folder.

    -OR-

(4b) Just develop a simple application that does the same thing AT&T's "visual voicemail" system does, i.e., match phone number against contacts database and play an MP3 file, complete with a cute little "V" button that you can drop into your iPhone dock.

I gave this exact suggestion a few days ago, there is quite a large thread about it called pseudo visual voicemail, or something...

OK guys, who's going to do it!! So far, I've got unlimited SkypeIN/Voicemail, and can simply forward my T-Mobile "no-answer voicemail transfer" to the Skype voicemail, and using Skype+PrettyMay, get an MP3 of my voicemail delivered to my email on iPhone. Then, predictably, the Mail app on iPhone doesn't know what the hell to do with the attached .MP3. *sigh*. Here is the body of the email (formatted by PrettyMay, with a little customization by me). Come on, I know one of you genius crackers can:

[version 1] - write a Python script to "enable" visual voicemail and drop this MP3 into the VVM message queue [
[version2] - do a lookup on the phone number and show appropriate sender on the VVM list

    Return-Path: <######@######.net>
    Received: from mail-delivery-agent (edge06.osg.ufl.edu [128.227.74.79])
